When I boot the drive it seems random as to which drive Premiere is going to recognize.ģ) I’m constantly getting the “Locating Media” window now when launching a project.
I even have one drive that has has three separate names - ExternalDrive, ExternalDrive 1 and now ExternalDrive 2. All of a sudden, Premiere recognizes that drive as ExternalDrive 1… adding a number at the end. But now when I’m launching a project on an external drive (say the drive name is "ExternalDrive”) it will boot up and I have to reset the Media Cache for some reason… even though it was the last drive used. This has never happened before but is popping up all over now. This happens constantly throughout a work day.Ģ) Premiere Pro is renaming/adding numbers to my hard drives. I then have to go in to the "default cache" location and delete the files so they don’t take up space on my start-up disk. If I do choose to launch the project, it immediately starts to render the cache files to my start-up disk while I go to Preferences to set the new Media Cache. No option to change the Media Cache right then and there, which is baffling. My only options are to switch to the default location (which is on my start-up disk… no bueno) or to cancel and shut down Premiere. If I’m switching project drives, Premiere will boot up and then tell me that the media cache location is missing. On each external drive I set up a media cache so all projects are self-contained.
Like all of us I use tons of external drives. I realize it’s a confusing title, but there are a number of things that have been dogging me lately and they’re all related, so might as well try to get them answered all at one go.ġ) Changing Media Cache location on start-up. OK Sherlocks of the world, roll up your sleeves I’ve got some puzzlers for you.
